Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Recalls Nearly 750,000 Vehicles
Gets off to a rocky start
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles opened on Wall Street earlier this week, and things did not go as well as CEO, Sergio Marchionne, had hoped. As if closing lower than the company opened on the first day wasn’t enough of a disaster for Marchionne, he’s now facing two Fiat Chrysler Automobile recalls, totaling 747,817 vehicles in the United States.
The larger of the two Fiat Chrysler Automobile recalls concerns 434,581 examples of the Chrysler 300; the Dodge Charger, Challenger, and Durango; and the Jeep Grand Cherokee, from models years 2011 – 2014. The vehicles in question feature a 3.6-liter V6 and a 160 amp alternator, which could reportedly fail without warning and cause the car to stall. Chrysler will begin to notify customers of this recall on November 28th of this year, though no remedy has been decided upon quite yet.
The second recall includes 313,236 units built between February 16, 2010, and July 19, 2013. The only affected model is the Jeep Wrangler, from 2011 – 2013. According to the recall notice, corrosion in the exterior heated power mirror electric connector could produce an electrical short, which could then result in a fire. Chrysler will begin this recall on December 5th, 2014.
As always, all costs will be borne by the automaker.
