This Jeep Wrangler probably can’t handle a little off-roading

There are few things that are quite as great as a special-edition Jeep Wrangler—and one of those few things just happens to be a special-edition Jeep Wrangler that was made to benefit local charities. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Foundation, the charitable arm of FCA US, recently joined with the Jeep brand and Canstruction, Inc., an international non-profit organization that fights hunger and poverty, for the second consecutive year to create a life-size 2016 Jeep Wrangler made entirely of food cans.

The Canstruction Jeep Wrangler was created to celebrate Canada Day in Vancouver. On public display at the city’s Canada Place waterfront celebrations, this can-tastic (get it?!) Wrangler was created using 5,000 full cans of non-perishable food. After Canada Day, the cans will be donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society and will provide more than 3,500 meals to those in need in the Vancouver area.

“After the success of last year’s build, it was a natural decision to return to Vancouver for another Jeep Wrangler Canstruction event,” said Reid Bigland, President and CEO of FCA Canada. “This effort reinforces FCA Canada and the FCA Foundation’s commitment to helping those less-fortunate, while also propelling youth towards success through skills in science, technology, engineering, and math—all while having fun!”

It took 12 hours to build the Wrangler, which was created on June 30th. Local area students aged 12 to 18 had a heavy hand in its creation, allowing the FCA Foundation to achieve its goal of both raising hunger and poverty awareness throughout the city, while also instilling the importance of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills in the younger generation.

The Canada Day celebration in Vancouver—or should we say Cancouver?—is the second largest celebration outside of Ottawa, which is the nation’s capital.
