Nearly 50 years after it originally debuted, the Fiat 124 Spider is making a comeback for the 2017 model year, as it was recently unveiled to the public for the first time at the 2015 LA Auto Show.

For the vehicle’s suspension, Fiat decided to go with a double-wishbone layout in the front and a multi-link in the rear, which will provide the new Spider with better stability when braking and turning.

Underneath the hood of the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider is a 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo four-cylinder engine good for 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The 124 Spider will be available with the choice between a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission.

The new Fiat roadster will also be available with advanced safety features such as blind-spot monitoring, a ParkView rear backup camera, rear cross path detection, and adaptive front headlamps.

The 2017 Fiat 124 Spider will come in two trim levels: Classic and Lusso. In addition, the first 124 units will be offered as a limited edition model called Prima Edizione Lusso.

“There’s no better way to celebrate 50 years of the Fiat 124 Spider than to bring back this iconic roadster, pairing its Italian styling of the past with all of the modern performance and technology of today,” said Olivier François, head of FIAT brand, FCA – Global. “The 124 Spider expands the FIAT family, bringing to market yet another head-turning, fun-to-drive vehicle for our customers.”
