Remember back in December, when some fool with $60K+ in his pocket decided to buy a brand spankin’ new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat that was much too powerful for him to handle? The fool in question was Lance Utley of Winter Park, Colorado, and he managed to crash the sacred Hellcat within hours of purchasing it at the dealership. It was so new that it had just 64 miles logged on the odometer.

Fortunately for Utley, he and his two passengers escaped unscathed. He was, however, SOL when it came to the wrecked Hellcat. The poor, damaged Challenger was well beyond repair.

So then, what happened to the world’s first wrecked Challenger Hellcat? A sleuth over at Allpar recently found it on an auction website for salvaged vehicles. The car, which is in a lot in Denver, is currently listed as “not ready for sale,” which means we’re devoid of details on the auction date or possible starting bids.

Allpar seems to think the wrecked Challenger SRT Hellcat might fetch a pretty hefty price when it’s eventually auctioned off. Because the engine starts, super fans will be eager to get their hands on the Hellcat powertrain so that they can install it into another vehicle. That alone is worth about $17,000, but the winning bidder will also get functioning drivetrain components and more, which would mean that “the wrecked Hellcat Challenger could end up selling for the price of a brand new base model Challenger.”

Regardless of how high the price climbs, this is one valuable find. Utley’s stupidity is going to pay off big for somebody…just not for Utley, of course.
