Looking to shake off a reputation for only safe, predictable sedans, Hyundai is already attempting to prove its luxury potential with the new Aslan. Now, the Korean automaker wants to prove that its vehicles have powerful sports car potential too.

With so many automakers parading one or two modified automobiles at this year’s SEMA show, Hyundai decided to go all-out and pair with some of the biggest automobile modifiers in the industry. With five stunning modified vehicles making an appearance, the brand is ready to stir things up. When these Hyundai concepts appear at SEMA, they cannot be ignored.

ARK Performance AR550 Hyundai Genesis

When Hyundai concepts appear at SEMA like this unexpected vision, you take notice. With its sights solidly on the big dogs like BMW and Mercedes-Benz, the Korean automaker has allowed talented ARK Performance tuners to create this supercharged bad boy. While most other modifications at SEMA care only about numbers, ARK Performance took a well-rounded look at the power, handling, sound, and high-performance technology.

Blood Type Racing Hyundai Genesis Coupe

We’ve already covered this 1,000 horsepower modified Genesis Coupe, but it deserves a second look. Employing a Precision turbocharger, Tanabe OLED Revel gauges, wide-body kit, and turbo-charged nitrous injection kit, Blood Type Racing (BTR) was able to squeeze 1,000 horsepower from this 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. As the death of the Genesis Coupe draws near, this is a fitting last hurrah.

Bisimoto Engineering Hyundai Sonata

Bisimoto Engineering and Hyundai have practically become best friends after three years of SEMA collaboration. While most of the Hyundai modifications at the Las Vegas show were focused on the robust Genesis, powertrain experts from Bisimoto knew the Sonata had a lot to offer, too. The final result is a vehicle with over 700 horsepower thanks to a re-built 2.4-liter “Theta-II” four-cylinder engine. Oh, and it brags some of the hottest custom graphics around.

JP Edition Hyundai Sonata

When Hyundai concepts appear at SEMA with a community-minded inspiration, this is the result. Knowing that Los Angeles culture and auto enthusiasts care about more than just power, artists Mr. 44 and Flexfit | BSCMP contributed to this JP Edition Sonata that showcases the west coast’s personality. It still has a few bells and whistles though, like the AEM cold air intake, a MagnaFlow exhaust kit and a hot charge pipe, all borrowed from Bisimoto.

Toca Signature Edition Hyundai Genesis

Hyundai concepts appear at SEMA either in the spotlight or in the shadows. The Toca Signature version of the Genesis follows the latter. Last but not least, this “Steel Phoenix” uses Hyundai’s “Tau” 5.0-liter V8 in its powertrain along with a Garrett twin turbo rigging to produce 600 horsepower. Even the interior got a boost with black leather, carbon-fiber trim, and a Rockford Fosgate sound system.

“Every year we invite some of the biggest names in the aftermarket tuning community to build some of the most exciting vehicles at SEMA,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president of Product and Corporate Planning for Hyundai Motor America. “We wanted this year’s builders to develop performance and luxury in tandem, and from what you see from our lineup of vehicles, they have exceeded our goals on every measure.”

After we’ve seen Hyundai concepts appear at SEMA, frankly we have to agree with Mike—our expectations were certainly surpassed of what Hyundais are capable of.
