Ford Holds Accelerated Action Day December 12th
December 12 marked another Ford Accelerated Action Day around the United States, with more than 700 employees hitting soup kitchens and shelters across the country to give back.
Ford employees participated in more than 50 different projects—a great number of which took place in and around Ford’s native Detroit—that sought to relieve hunger and provide comfort for the less fortunate.
“Helping to meet the most basic needs of our neighbors is the first step toward creating a better world,” said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services. “Hunger affects one in six Americans. That’s 49 million people each year. We have a lot of reasons to be thankful and one of them is being able to share some of our good fortune with the less fortunate in our communities.”
Ford split $91,000 in Ford Fund grants among a number of national agencies geared toward resolving hunger. A majority of that money was granted to the endeavors of numerous organizations in Michigan, including assembling food packages at Advanced Technology Academy in Dearborn, serving lunch to the homeless at Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, and organizing a food pantry at Lighthouse of Oakland County in Pontiac.
“We know that finding enough to eat is a daily struggle for thousands in our community,” said Janet Lawson, director, Ford Volunteer Corps. “Through our volunteer efforts and nonprofit partnerships, our fleet of Ford Mobile Food Pantries and the generous donations of so many, we hope to ease that struggle not just over the holidays but throughout the year.”
Ford says that it donated more than $1.3 million in support and assistance to hunger-relief organizations around the country this past fall.
