Ford Achieves Record August Sales in China

Ford and its joint ventures in China last month achieved record sales for August with a 22% year-over-year increase and a total of 96,450 vehicles delivered. Through eight months of sales, the cumulative sales of Changan Ford and Jiangling Motor Corporation total around 750,000 vehicles, which is an 8% improvement from its sales through August 2015.

“We continue to build momentum in China on the strength of the most comprehensive and exciting Ford lineup we have ever offered Chinese customers,” said Peter Fleet, vice president of Marketing, Sales and Service, Asia Pacific. “Our new product surge continues this month with the launch of the new Kuga SUV with SYNC 3.”

Changan Ford sales were up 26% year-over-year with a total of 75,228 vehicles delivered. Through the month of August, CAF’s sales total 578,947 vehicles, 13% better than its pace through the first two-thirds of 2015.

Among the leaders in Ford’s sales surge were the Escort and Edge, the former of which seeing a 49% year-over-year sales increase and the latter seeing a three-fold sales increase. Sales of the Ford Focus were also up big with a 92% year-over-year increase, and Ford reports that the Taurus is continuing make gains in the non-premium large sedan market.

Jiangling Motor Company sales were up 16% in August with 19,951 vehicles delivered. Through August, GMC sales are down 3% at a total of 159,213 units.

Ford’s success in China through August enabled the automaker to achieve its 1-millionth sale in the Asia Pacific region a full month ahead of its pace from 2015.
