Ford America’s Best-Selling Brand for Sixth Straight Year in 2015
Ford wrapped up 2015 with an overall 8.2% sales increase in the month of December (between an 8.2% increase from Ford vehicles and 12.1% increase from Lincoln vehicles), adding a total of 239,242 vehicles to its tally for the full year. In total, Ford sold 2,613,162 vehicles in the United States in 2015, up 5.3% from its year-end total in 2014 and good for the company’s best annual sales result in nine years.
With a total of 2,511,935 Blue Oval-badged vehicles sold, Ford maintains its status as America’s best-selling automotive brand for the sixth consecutive year. With a total of 780,354 trucks sold, the Ford F-Series stands as the best-selling pickup in America for an unprecedented 39 years and its best-selling vehicle overall for the past 34 years.
Despite a down-year industry-wide, Ford’s car sales were off a scant 0.3% from 2014 thanks almost solely to the immense popularity of the Ford Mustang. Mustang sales totaled 122,349 vehicles in 2015, up 48.1% from 2014.
SUV sales were up 13.2% in December with a total of 65,675 units delivered, and overall sales were up 6.8% at a total of 740,876 SUVs sold. Cumulatively, the Edge (124,120 units, up 14%), Explorer (224,309 units, up 18.5%), and Police Interceptor Utility (24,942 units, up 20.8%) all posted double-digit year-over-year gains.
2015 was also a huge year for Ford vans, with 117,577 Transits and 52,221 Transit Connects sold.
