Most Popular Mustang Colors

The 2015 Ford Mustang has gone global, hitting untapped markets like China, Germany, and the UK for the first time in the nameplate’s 50-year history. Naturally, one of the very first things that Ford wanted to figure out: what Mustang colors are the most popular abroad?

Ford conducted a study to see what colors are most popular for the beloved pony car in the United States, Europe, and China. As it turns out, the latter two are united in their love for Race Red, which took the top spot as most popular based upon pre-orders and early configurations.

About 35% of all Mustangs ordered in China thus far have been outfitted in Race Red. The second-most popular color—Oxford White—comprises about 20% of all orders, and Black Mustangs make up a little less than 20% of all sales. Ford reports that more than 5 million consumers in China have visited its website in order to check out the details on the new Mustang, and that 18,000 test drive requests have been counted since its arrival.

In Europe, 1.1 million Mustangs have been configured on the Ford Europe websites, with both Race Red and Absolute Black accounting for 20% of all models configured in the five biggest markets in Europe. The third-most popular color in all of Europe—Deep Impact Blue—is the second-most popular color in the UK.

Stateside, Black remains the color of choice for Mustang shoppers, followed by Magnetic Metallic and Ruby Red. According to a report conducted by Ford in 2013, Black has been the most popular Mustang color for the last four years.
