The mystery vehicle that many speculated would be the next-generation Ford Fusion has been revealed as, surprise, the next-generation Ford Fusion. The 2017 Fusion was unveiled this morning at the North American International Auto Show with a sharp new face, not one but two hybrid variants, an-all new all-wheel-drive Fusion V6 Sport model, and the new Fusion Platinum trim.

More Ford News: The 2017 Super Duty is tougher—and lighter—than ever

“Fusion offers people a lot more car—including helpful technology, beautiful design and a more rewarding driving experience than other midsize sedans,” said Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president and chief technical officer, Global Product Development.

Fresh off of announcing a substantial investment in electrified vehicle technology, Ford revealed that the 2017 Fusion will be offered in Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Energi models that will feature improved software and electric motors. Both will feature electric-only speeds of up to 85 mph and regenerative braking that will capture 95% of all energy lost through braking. The Fusion Energy sports a 7.6-kWh lithium-ion battery that will generate a 19-mile electric-only range, and paired with the 2.0-liter engine, a combined range of 500 miles. It will be fully-rechargeable in 2.5 hours, which should make it quite a bit more attractive to consumers who may remain on the fence about plug-in hybrid technology.

The Fusion V6 Sport, on the other hand, is focused entirely on power output. Utilizing a twin-turbo 2.7-liter EcoBoost® V6 and an all-wheel-drive platform, the Fusion V6 Sport is expected to produce 325 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque.

The high-luxury Fusion Platinum will also be offered in all-wheel drive and with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine, and it will feature Cocoa leather instrument and door trim panels, hand-wrapped Venetian leather steering wheel, distinctive grille finished in Magnetic paint, and 19-inch polished wheels.

The new 2017 Fusion will also be offered with new technologies including SYNC® 3. More information will be released covering each new model in the months leading up to the Fusion’s summer release.
