Ford Announces $400,000 in Ford Fund Driving Dreams Grants
Ford Motor Company Fund on Friday announced the recipients of its Ford Driving Dream Grants as part of the LULAC Convention held in Washington DC.
Ford Fund is awarding a combined $400,000 in scholarships and grants to 10 Councils and LULAC National Educational Service Centers, Inc.; 10 Councils will receive $180,000 in Ford Driving Dream Grants to start-up and implement dropout prevention programs aimed at Latino students, and LULAC National Educational Service Centers, Inc. will receive $220,000 in scholarships that will be awarded to Hispanic students in San Antonio, Houston, and Puerto Rico.
“We are very proud of our work with LULAC, because together we are able to provide the resources to help the Councils build brighter educational futures for thousands of students in their own communities,” said Joe Avila, community outreach manager, Ford Motor Company Fund. “Education has long been a priority for Ford, and we are committed to helping our youth acquire the tools they need for future success.”
Eight LULAC Councils will receive $20,000 in grants across two school years, including: #7 (Laredo, Texas); #333 (Milwaukee, Wisconsin); #754 (Rogers, Arkansas); #4609 (Arlington, Virginia); #5273 (Waukegan, Illinois); #11125 (Washington, DC); #15164 (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico); and #40002 (Portland, Oregon). LULAC Council #2848 in Anaheim, California and LULAC Council #44040 in Provo, Utah will each receive a $10,000 grant to extend their programs for an additional year.
“Helping young people succeed is a constant effort we have made possible in association with Ford Motor Company Fund so students can graduate high school on time and pursue a college education. Today we celebrate and recognize the work of the Councils who are making sure that their communities are being empowered through academic excellence,” said Brent Wilkes, national executive director of LULAC.
Ford Driving Dreams Grants has used more than $1.3 million to help more than 1,500 students and 60 LULAC Councils since launching in 2010.
