As Ford continues to expand its efforts to be known for being both an automotive and a mobility company, it continues to roll out new advances aimed specifically at easing urban congestion and making transportation both less of a hassle and greener.

As part of this effort, Ford has announced that its collaboration with bike-share technology leader Motivate has borne fruit with the expansion of its Ford GoBike bike-sharing pilot program in the San Francisco Bay Area. By the end of 2018, Ford GoBike—originally announced in September of last year—is expected to encompass 546 stations and a total of 7,000 GoBikes spread out across San Francisco, San Jose, and Easy Bay. Ford says that there will be 3,500 bikes available in the region by the conclusion of summer.

“At Ford, we understand it takes working together with cities to address their unique set of transportation challenges to help reduce congestion,” said John Kwant, vice president, City Solutions, Ford Smart Mobility. “Ford GoBike represents a strong collaboration between Motivate and the communities in the Bay Area, as all parties reinforce their commitment to help the city thrive with more sustainable mobility options like Ford GoBike.”

To improve ease of access, Ford GoBikes can be rented a number of different ways. Interested parties can register at FordGoBike.com for an account, utilize the FordPass app to reserve and pay for a bike, or walk up to any Ford GoBike station and rent on the spot. Ford has also announced a new fourth option: a dedicated Ford GoBike app that will provide functions such as timers, notifications, states, and the ability to save their favorite stations.
