Henry Ford Entrepreneurship Academy Workshop

Ford announced this week that it will be expanding its Henry Ford Entrepreneurship Academy (HFEA) with workshops set to take place from May 1st to 3rd at Effat University in Jeddah. Ford held its first-ever HFEA workshops, aimed specifically at empowering women in Saudi Arabia, in March of last year.

Ford’s HFEA workshops are being offered as part of Saudi Arabia’s gradual approach toward basic equality for women. The government’s Vision 2030 plan for social and economic reform focuses in part on providing women with equal rights; as part of the agenda, women will finally be granted the right to drive this coming June. It also falls in line with a 35% increase in female entrepreneurialism in Saudi Arabia over the past decade.

“As Saudi Arabia continues to open up new and exciting opportunities for women, Ford remains focused on providing the skills needed to design their own destiny,” said Simonetta Verdi, director, Government and Community Relations, Ford Middle East and Africa. “The applied learning techniques employed by the Henry Ford Entrepreneurship Academy workshops empower participants to gain a better understanding of their unique value contribution as future entrepreneurs and business leaders in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

This year’s HFEA workshops are expected to attract approximately 100 businesswomen from Riyadh’s Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University and Jeddah’s Effat University. Attendees will be provided with insight on how to capitalize on entrepreneurial aspirations by representatives of the Ford Motor Company Fund and Virginia Commonwealth University.

Ford has also announced that it is appointing Houda Jorio program chief, and that she will head up this year’s workshop at the Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University. Jorio is a professor of Management, Entrepreneurship, and Operations Technology at the International Institute for Higher Education in Morocco.
