Ford understands that smartwatches are all the rage these days, which is why they’ve created a MyFord® Mobile app specifically for didn’t-think-I-actually-needed-it-but-now-can’t-live-without-it accessories like Pebble and Apple Watch.

According to Ford, the new app will be catered to drivers of its electric (Focus Electric) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (C-MAX Energi and Fusion Energi), allowing them to check the charge status of batteries, unlock doors, and receive a driving score rating their efficiency behind the wheel.

“The app gives drivers the ability to quickly check important data like available range before leaving on a journey—without having to access the mobile application on their smartphone,” said David Hatton, Ford manager, Connected Vehicles and Services. “The app can also notify users when their car is fully charged, helping a driver be courteous to other electric vehicle owners so they can free up the charging spot or avoid fees applied at some charging stations when you overrun your time after the charge is complete.”

Features of the app include range and charge status, “capability to initiate preconditioning of vehicle cabin remotel” (presumably, this means adjusting memory seating and pre-set climate control conditions), locking and unlocking, trip summary including vehicle score and percentage of electric vehicle miles, and walking or driving directions back to vehicle location.

Other features include Google Maps capabilities with pinch and zoom feature.
