Ford Global Technology and Business Center in Chennai

Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford announced that it will invest $195 million in the construction of a modernized and more eco-savvy Global Technology and Business Center in Chennai, which will also result in the creation of approximately 3,000 jobs over five years. The 28-acre campus will also become the new hub for 9,000 employees from six existing facilities across Chennai, and will serve as the epicenter of product development and mobility solutions for both India and numerous other global markets.

“India is not only a vibrant market for cars and new mobility ideas, it also is rich with talent, technical expertise and ingenuity,” Ford said. “This new center will help us attract the best and brightest, and make Chennai a true hub of innovation for Ford around the world.”

The Ford Global Technology and Business Center will, upon completion in early 2019, become the automaker’s third global product development center in Asia Pacific and its second-largest employment center behind its global headquarters in Dearborn.

The campus is anticipated to house 2.5 million square feet of floor space across three buildings, a Learning and Development Center, a canteen, and a Product Development Center. On-site amenities will include a fitness center, yoga center, childcare center, and other components that promote Ford’s imperative to help employees find a balance between work and their personal lives.

What’s more, the two main office towers and Learning and Development Center will be compliant with LEED Gold and Platinum standards. This will involve LED light fixtures, solar panels, a water treatment plant, and heat and water recovery systems.
