Ford Announces SYNC 3 for South Africa
Ford has announced that SYNC 3 will launch in South Africa this year when it debuts on the Kuga, Mustang, Ranger, and Everest. The popular technology will be offered for customers in English, Zulu, and Afrikaans.
“SYNC 3 brings to life even more innovative new ways of staying connected on the move,” said Tracey Delate, General Manager, Marketing, Ford Motor Company Sub-Saharan Africa Region. “Designed to complement modern smartphones, with an intuitive touch screen and an exciting array of new features, SYNC 3 understands even more conversational speech commands, is significantly faster and offers a higher resolution interface that is simpler, and easier to read and use than the outgoing SYNC 2 system.”
SYNC 3 will feature built-in voice control and access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The former provides access to iPhones and compatibility with Siri Eyes Free, while the latter makes available apps and services such as Google Maps and Google Play Music. In addition, updates can be downloaded over Wi-Fi on trusted networks, making it easier for customers to say up to date.
“The fantastic new features and functionality launched with SYNC 3 makes it one of the most comprehensive and easy to use in-car communication and entertainment systems of its kind,” Delate added. “Some of the licenses for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are still being finalized for official release in the collective Middle East and Africa region, and therefore will be introduced as they become available in market.”
Ford says it will roll out SYNC 3 across the 2017 model year, adding that navigation will be offered as an option for select models beginning next year.
