Ford announced the launch of two new community-driven initiatives aimed at inspiring acts of philanthropy among employees and civilians alike.

The first of these initiatives is the Bill Ford Better World Challenge, so named for the company’s executive chairman. This grant program will ultimately award up to $500,000 to community service projects identified by Ford employees as being worthy of support. The program will be jointly funded by Ford the company and Ford the individual, and it will utilize the 30,000 members of the Ford Volunteer Corps.

The second is Thirty Under 30, which will select 30 US Ford employees under the age of 30 to receive a year’s worth of civil engagement and leadership skills courses. This program also links employees to nonprofits, which allows for a two-way learning channel between a younger generation and the charities that will utilize their services over time.

“Community service is one of the hallmarks of our company and the Ford family,” said Bill Ford. “As we celebrate the incredible achievements of the Ford Volunteer Corps, we are looking to the future with innovative programs that further harness the power of our volunteers and build the next generation of community leaders.”

Funding for the Bill Ford Better World Challenge is expected to be doled out by mid-2016. Thirty Under 30 will begin as a pilot project in the US when it begins sometime next year.
