best-selling vehicles for military familiesWith the Fourth of July right around the corner, it’s only natural that we can expect a great deal of conversation as to just which vehicles are the most American. It turns out that Ford has utilized some Polk vehicle registration data to determine that Ford vehicles are the best-selling vehicles for military families.

Using a sample of 19.3 million homes with active, retired, or veteran military personnel, which accounts for 920,000 new and used vehicle purchases in 2013. The most popular vehicle? Oh, yeah. You guess it: the Ford F-150.

“Military families, in particular, desire the efficiency, capability and smart technology Ford vehicles offer,” said Jim Farley, Ford executive vice president, Global Marketing, Sales, Service and Lincoln. “Ford has a long history of supporting active-duty military personnel and veterans, and it is an honor American military families buy Ford more than any other brand.”

The Ford Escape also made the list at number three, making it the most popular utility vehicle among American military families. It’s noted that the Escape is particularly popular with military families in Philadelphia, Detroit, and Cleveland.

The Fusion closed out the list for Ford in the ninth-place position.

Ford notes that the company has been an active supporter of military personnel and their families as far back as 90 years ago, when Henry Ford led a 50 Ford Model T caravan across the country to carry disabled veterans to a convention. In the last 40 years alone, Ford has donated more than $8 million to  various veterans organizations.
