Ford Boosts Market Share in South Africa as Ranger Remains Strong
Ford saw domestic sales of 5,561 vehicles in South Africa this past month, grabbing an 11.9% market share for July and bringing its year-to-date market share in the region to 12.4%.
“There was definitely a ray of sunshine in the new vehicle market during July 2017 with the overall industry sales improving by 4% compared to July last year,” said Neale Hill, Director of Marketing, Sales, and Service, Ford Motor Company Sub-Saharan Africa Region. “However, based in the current economic and political climate, and the lack of business and consumer confidence, we still expect the industry to remain relatively flat for the balance of the year.”

Ford’s sales were led by a trio of popular vehicles: Ranger, EcoSport, and Fiesta. Deliveries of the Ranger totaled 2,300 units, bringing to-date sales up 4.4% over its pace through the first seven months of 2016. The Ranger also saw exports totaling 6,452 vehicles to markets in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, making it South Africa’s most-exported light commercial vehicle and second-most-exported vehicle overall.
EcoSport sales totaled 851 vehicles in July, and sales of the Fiesta were just shy of four figures at 998 vehicles. Mustang sales were also strong at a total of 62 pony cars delivered.

The challenge for manufacturers is to offer competitive pricing and total cost of ownership, while also meeting the demand for even greater levels of quality, technology, refinement, efficiency and safety,” Hill added. “We believe that our current model range ticks all of these boxes, and are virtues appreciated by individual customers and business alike, backed up by exceptional service from our national dealer network.”
