Ford Breaks Ground on Wagner Place Development Project
Ford officially broke ground on its $60 million Wagner Place urban development last week, kicking off a project that will ultimately see the relocation of 600 Ford employees as well as the establishment of retail and restaurant options.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place this past Wednesday and saw the participation of Dearborn Mayer John B. O’Reilly, Jr. Ford Land Chairman and CEO was also on hand for the groundbreaking.
“Wagner Place represents the ongoing evolution of not only our west downtown, but the entire city,” said O’Reilly. “We’re excited to welcome new businesses and our Ford Motor Company partners to West Dearborn, and look forward to the development bringing hundreds of employees to the area, new customers and a renewed energy to our community.”

“Developing an urban office environment positions Ford to offer a work setting that will appeal to a new generation of employees,” said Dubensky. “Wagner Place supports our goals to create a more collaborative and inviting campus atmosphere for all employees.”
The Wagner Place project will transform 150,000-square feet into a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified mixed-use urban space, which will consist of retail and restaurant spaces on the first floor, two floors of workspace to accommodate the 600 employees, and a rooftop patio.
The Ford employees relocated to Wagner Place will be members of the global data insights and analytics (GDIA) team, which is involved with the company’s plans to transition from an automaker to both an auto and mobility company.
The Wagner Place development will leave intact the 120-year-old façade of the former Wagner Hotel, and it will be just a short walk away from Ford’s world headquarters campus, which is in the midst of a 10-year redesign.
Michigan Strategic Fund is also contributing $3 million to support the erection of a public parking space at West Village Drive and Monroe Street that will accommodate approximately 373 cars.
The Wagner Place project is expected to be completed by mid-2018.
