says that it put a lot of thought into the placement of color in its new 2017 GT supercar, which is somewhat surprising given that the first thought one might have about attention to detail in a $450,000 sports car is that the creators were more than likely just kinda like “meh, you know, who cares” about the whole ordeal.

Ford says that the use of color and material in the GT was employed as a means not just to provide people with a visual cornucopia, but also as a way to highlight its innovative and performance aspects.

“We walked a fine line with the color and materials in this vehicle—infusing energy through use of color and balance while working to ensure the raw appeal of a performance car still shines through,” says Barb Whalen, Ford design manager, color and materials. “Everything in the all-new Ford GT was intentionally designed to express ultimate performance.”

Examples include the ability to choose different color options for the Brembo brake calipers—a first for Ford. The calipers, which are carbon ceramic and approximately 50% lighter than cast-iron equivalents, can be had in Black, Silver, Blue, Orange, or Red. The choice allows the owner of the vehicle to emphasize the calipers and call attention to the wheels, much in the same way that the available colors of racing stripes call attention to the sleekness of its carbon-fiber body.

Speaking of carbon fiber, the use of the material but inside and outside of the vehicle emphasizes its future-forward approach and reminds the driver about its application as not just an aesthetic component, but as a structural component.

One thing is for sure: given the numerous options for customization and the very, very finite number of Ford GTs being made available, there is a strong possibility that no two GTs will be exactly alike. Like special snowflakes, you know?
