Ford Confirms F-150 Power Stroke’s Segment-Best Fuel Economy; Best-in-Class Diesel Power, Towing, Payload
Arena rock legend Billy Squier is arguably best known for his 1981 hit song, “The Stroke,” which almost certainly regards a subject matter of a more mature nature. It is a memorable and catchy song nonetheless, and it’s almost certain that it will be the song bounding around in the head of anyone driving the new 2018 Ford F-150 Power Stroke. Because, you know. Stroke.
Also like music to the ears of anyone looking to drive an F-150 powered by the all-new 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel is its official EPA fuel economy rating: 30 mpg on the highway, 22 mpg in the city, and 25 mpg combined, making it the most efficient truck in the full-size segment. Clearly, if you’re in the (truck) game, then the Stroke’s the word.
“Even a few years ago, customers wouldn’t have imagined an EPA-estimated rating of 30 mpg highway would be possible in a full-size pickup, but our team of crazy-smart engineers rose to the challenge,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford executive vice president, product development, and purchasing.
The 2018 Ford F-150 Power Stroke won’t skimp on power, either. In fact, Ford confirmed on Thursday what it originally reported in January: the turbo-diesel-powered F-150 will deliver best-in-class 250 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque, as well as best-in-class diesel towing at 11,400 pounds and best-in-class diesel payload of 2,020 pounds for the XL and XLT fleet versions and 1,940 pounds for retail models.
The Power Stroke-equipped 2018 Ford F-150 will begin arriving at dealerships in May, so it’s only a matter of time before a bunch of people start walking into showrooms all over the country and demanding: “Stroke me, stroke me.”
