Ford Details May Sales in China, Leaves Out Bunches of Details
Ford China announced sales of 91,013 vehicles in May, which represents a 4% gain over sales from May 2014. These numbers represent retail sales as opposed to wholesale figures, which Ford anticipates will provide a much more accurate image of consumer demand. Oddly enough, Ford’s figures did not include any mention of sales for specific models, which actually seems quite a bit more nebulous.

Changan Ford Automobile, Ford’s passenger car joint venture, moved 67,357 units during the month, good for a 3% year-over-year sales increase. Jiangling Motors Corporation was up 7% year-over-year with 20,910 vehicles sold.
To date, Ford has sold 459,982 vehicles in China, which is 1% better than the pace at which its vehicles were moving through May 2014. CAF is also up 1% with 332,999 vehicles sold, and JMC is up 4% with 110,248 vehicles sold.
Ford provided no further details with regards to how its new lineup additions are faring, nor did it provide any information regarding segment-by-segment performance, average transaction price, or any information that actually winnows down consumer trends in any perceptible way. Say, how’s the Mustang been selling? Or the Focus? Or Lincoln? Don’t know!
Maybe they’ll work that kink out for next month. It’s an imperfect science!
