Ford today revealed its all-new 2017 Escape SUV, and with it came the announcement of a new addition to the automaker’s SYNC lineup. Ford SYNC Connect, which works in conjunction with SYNC 3 and will debut on the new Escape next year, will allow users more access to their vehicles via smartphone app.

“New SYNC Connect provides convenience to Ford owners through an easy-to-use app,” said Don Butler, executive director, Ford Connected Vehicle and Services. “The technology helps you seamlessly integrate your vehicle into your lifestyle. Get locked out? Cold outside? Forget where you parked? No problem. Just use your smartphone.”

With SYNC Connect, an app will allow users to connect to a modem built into the Escape. This will create the possibility for remote starting and scheduling; for example, if a user wants to start their vehicle five minutes before they leave for work in the morning, they can set a remote start time five minutes prior to their planned departure and move immediately from their warm home to a warm vehicle interior.

SYNC Connect also offers remote lock and unlock and a vehicle location service that will allow users to find where their vehicle is parked on a map display. Additionally, SYNC Connect offers vehicle diagnostics including fuel, oil, battery, and tire pressure levels.

SYNC Connect will be offered as a five-year complimentary service from Ford; no word on rates thereafter.
