Ford is detailing a number of new additions to the 2016 F-150, including Pro Trailer Backup Assist, a Special Edition Appearance Package, and a Compressed Natural Gas/Propane fuel prep option. These options should serve to make the next model-year version of the next-gen pickup even more popular than the current iteration.

The newest announcement concerns the addition of a Special Edition Package for both the XLT and Lariat trim, adding 20-inch anodized dark-painted aluminum wheels with red sport lettering; black running boards; smoked headlamps; dark anodized grille with black mesh (XLT) or dark anodized grille with red accents (Lariat); and unique bodyside graphics and badging on the outside. On the inside, these special editions receive unique seats with Alcantara® inserts; red contrast stitching and bolsters; and red-stitched steering wheel, gear selector boot, and instrument panel.

Ford previously announced the CNG/Propane option in May, which will be offered with F-150s equipped with the 5.0-liter V8 and will make the F-150 the only light-duty pickup currently available on the market with an alternative fuel prep kit available.

The Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature was also announced earlier this year, and it will make it easier for drivers to maneuver their trucks when hooked up to a trailer or boat. Pro Trailer Backup Assist is controlled by a knob on the center stack, which allows the driver to steer their cargo in a safe, controlled manner.

The 2016 F-150 will also add SYNC 3 in place of SYNC with MyFord Touch, and two colors will be replaced—Shadow Black takes the place of Tuxedo Black, and Lithium Gray takes the place of Guard Metallic.

Earlier this month, Ford also revealed the all-new Limited trim for the 2016 F-150, a high-end model that will likely carry a $60,000-or-greater price-point.
