Ford, DJI Announce Drone-to-Vehicle Developer Challenge

Ford understands that the future of delivery may very well be in the steel hands (or claws or whatever you call their little appendages) of drones. With that understanding in mind, the automaker is teaming with DJI for the DJI Developer Challenge, which aims to urge developers to innovate new drone-to-vehicle software utilizing Ford SYNC AppLink or OpenXC.

“At Ford, we are driving innovation in every part of our business to help make people’s lives better,” said Ken Washington, Ford vice president, Research and Advanced Engineering. “Working with DJI and the United Nations, there is an opportunity to make a big difference with vehicles and drones working together for a common good.”

The objective of the challenge will be to create a surveying system for the United Nations Development Program that can be used in emergency zones that may be otherwise inaccessible to humans.
