Ford Mobile Food Pantry Vehicles prepare to deliver thousands of diapers and cans of formula

Ford has announced that it will contribute the sum of $100,000 to an infant formula program at the Gleaners Community Food Bank in Detroit. This endowment will provide enough formula to feed more than 7,000 babies for two weeks.

Additionally, Ford employees and volunteers will chip in hundreds of pounds of formula more, as well as thousands of diapers, all of which was collected during the Ford Volunteer Corps’ Diaper & Formula Drive. This year’s Diaper & Formula Drive was part of the March 5th Ford Accelerated Action Day, the first such event of 2015.

The result of the drive will see more than 7,000 cans of formula and thousands of diapers dispersed to non-profits located throughout Southeast Michigan. These goods were distributed in the company’s fleet of Mobile Food Pantry Vehicles.

“Healthy, nutritious foods are often difficult to find for families living in economically depressed neighborhoods,” said Janet Lawson, director, Ford Volunteer Corps. “Ford’s donation will provide essential nutrition and a healthy start to infants who are at the most critical stage in their development.”

Ford says that its aim in helping Gleaners Community Food Bank is to help give back to the Detroit community. Ford employees and the public at large are also encouraged to donate to Gleaners via text donation—simply text (FFB) to (41444) and follow the link to donate by credit or debit card.

“Hungry kids struggle more in school, are more prone to behavioral problems and are less likely to live healthy, successful lives than children who regularly eat well,” said Gerry Brisson, president, Gleaners Community Food Bank. “More than 40 percent of the people we serve are children and this generous donation from Ford Fund, the largest formula donation we have received this year, will go a long way toward bridging the gap in infant nutrition in our community.”
