Ford has announced that it will donate $500,000 to The Ark in celebration of its 50th anniversary. The legendary music venue located in Ann Arbor, Michigan will commemorate the donation by naming the Ford Listening Room after their generous benefactor.

“The Ark is a cultural treasure, not just for southeast Michigan, but for musicians around the world,” said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services, the charitable arm of Ford Motor Company. “Our contribution will help ensure The Ark remains a vibrant home for performers and an important community resource.”

Ford’s support of The Ark dates back to 1991, and the $500,000 donation is part of a $2.5 million campaign to purchase and renovate the venue for the enjoyment of future audiences.

The Ark was originally founded in 1965 by representatives from four Detroit-area churches, and it has occupied its space at 316 S. Main Street in Ann Arbor for nearly 20 years. Today, it hosts as many as 300 shows annually.
