Ford Donates Transit Van to New York Common Pantry
Ford Motor Company is donating a Ford Transit Mobile Food Pantry to the New York Common Pantry as part of Robin Hood’s “Night for NYC.” This donation will allow the New York Common Pantry to better deliver food to low income senior citizens as is outlined in Nourish, the Commodity Supplemental Food Program funded by both the New York State Department of Health and US Department of Agriculture.
“Ford Motor Company has been making people’s lives better for more than 100 years—not only by building great vehicles, but also through investing in communities,” said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services. “We are proud to assist New York Common Pantry as they expand their work fighting hunger across New York City.”
The Ford Transit van is the basis for Ford Mobile Food Pantries, with the current fleet totaling more than 50 vehicles across the United States. In 2016, Ford has donated Transit vans to New York Common Pantry, God’s Love We Deliver, and the Hispanic Federation. In 2015 alone, Ford Fund helped deliver three million meals to Americans in need.
Ford has also donated a number of Transit vehicles to serve other worthy causes, including donating five Transit Connect vans to the American Red Cross in June of last year.
It was also announced on Monday that Ford CEO Mark Fields will serve as the co-chair of the Robin Hood 2016 Benefit, which takes place Monday night at the Javits Center, is hosted by board member Katie Couric, and features performances from Usher and Jim Gaffigan.
