Ford Driving Dreams Tour Puerto Rico

Ford Motor Company Fund kicked off its Ford Driving Dreams Tour in Puerto Rico last month with an event at The Condado Plaza in San Juan. The initiative is aimed at motivating students to complete high school and pursue further education thereafter by providing resources and financial aid. Ford Fund is investing $100,000 in Puerto Rico for educational resources.

“Ford is committed to helping communities bridge the gap between education and students who deserve a path to higher education because the lack of resources should never determine their academic success,” said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services.

The kick-off event that took place last month involved 400 students from four high schools in and around San Juan. Students represented the following schools: Escuela Alternativa ASPIRA Aguada, Escuela Alternativa ASPIRA Mayagüez, Escuela Alternativa ASPIRA Carolina, and Escuela Francisco Oller Cataño.

Among the events that took place were a What Drives Your Dreams? Essay contest; a speech and live performance from singer/songwriter Pedro Capó; and speeches from astronomer Mayra Lebrón, astronomer Carmen Pantojas, Puerto Rico Department of Education Assistant Secretary of Education Services Harry Valentin, Cambio en Clave’s Rafael Cancel, and Ford Motor Company Managing Director for the Caribbean and Central America Pablo Haase.

The tour is the result of a collaboration between Ford Motor Company Fund and ASPIRA Puerto Rico.

Since launching in 2012, the Ford Driving Dreams Tour has touched the lives of more than 75,000 youths internationally.
