Ford Driving Dreams Yerba Beuna High School

Ford embarked on the first leg of its Ford Driving Dreams Tour earlier this year in Panama, and its most recent stop resulted in a pep rally in San Jose. Ford kicked off its tour at Yerba Buena High School, where representatives from Ford and a former NASA astronaut extolled the virtues of staying in school and pursuing a career in the STEM field.

“I first got my dream as I hoed a row of sugar beets in a California field with my parents,” said former NASA astronaut Jose Hernandez, who spoke with students at the high school. “It took 12 tries to achieve my dream of becoming an astronaut. I am proof that with a good education, solid work ethic, and the right resources, any student’s dream—a dream that others may turn down the first 11 times—becomes a goal that can be fulfilled.”

The Ford Driving Dreams Tour will include pep rallies, essay contests, and scholarships all aimed at impacting as many as 4,000 high school students and 1,000 middle school students in Northern California. The tour is the result of an endeavor by the Ford Motor Company Fund to help encourage Latino youth to aspire for higher education after high school.

The Ford Driving Dreams Tour began in earnest in 2012, and it has reached more than 30,000 students in Chicago, Indiana, Florida, Texas, and Panama. This tour of the tour was funded by a $1 million investment announced earlier this year.
