Production of the EcoSport is underway at Ford Sollers’ Naberezhnye Chelny Assembly Plant

Production is underway at the Ford Sollers plant in the Republic of Tatarstan, which is a federal subject of Russia. The Naberezhnye Chelny Assembly Plant is currently building the Ford EcoSport SUV, and later plans call for production to begin on a five-door Fiesta.

Naberezhnye Chelny is the third assembly plant that Ford Sollers operates in Russia and the second in Russia, following the Vsevolozhsk plant near St. Petersberg and the Elabuga plant in Tatarstan. Ford Sollers is the joint venture between Ford and JSC Sollers.

“We’re proud to announce the start of production of the Ford EcoSport at Ford Sollers’ third assembly plant in Naberezhnye Chelny. This state-of-the art facility will build Ford vehicles to the highest quality levels,” said Ted Cannis, president and CEO, Ford Sollers. “EcoSport will be a winning addition to the Russian range and will strengthen Ford’s brand presence in the fast-growing SUV and crossover market segment.”

The Naberezhnye Chelny plant will have a total annual production capacity of around 115,000 vehicles and will employ as many as 1,500 people.

Ford Sollers have modified the EcoSport for the Russian market to meet the needs of its customers. It will be available in either front- or all-wheel drive, with either a 1.6-liter or 2.0-liter gasoline engine, and with the choice of a 5- or 6-speed manual or Powershift 6-speed automatic transmission.

Ford Sollers intends to bring as many as six new vehicles to the Russian market within the next year, and it will also begin building engines at its Elabuga plant next year.
