Ford Escape Sees Best March Sales in Canada, SUV Sales Up 19%
Ford of Canada saw its overall sales in March increase by 0.2% year-over-year, climbing from 26,447 units last year to 26,487 units this year. While sales were ostensibly flat, the new Ford Escape saw its sales rise by 12%, good enough for its best March ever. Explorer and Expedition sales also helped contribute to Ford’s solid quarter-closing month with respective growth of 31% and 96%, helping Ford’s total SUV sales increase 19% year-over-year.
“Canadians continue to choose Ford to meet their SUV needs, whether it’s driving the family around the city or hauling equipment to the cottage,” said Mark Buzzell, president and CEO, Ford of Canada. “We continue to drive innovation in SUV design and technology, and look forward to the capable and adaptable all-new 2018 Ford Expedition, which goes on sale this fall.”
Ford car sales were down 19.9% in March at 2,974 units, though 48% growth for the Ford C-MAX helped lead the automaker to an 8% increase in hybrid vehicle sales. Mustang sales also increased 3%, and sales of the new Lincoln MKZ were up 14%.
Ford truck sales increased 3.4% from 22,734 units in 2016 to 23,513 units last month. In addition to strong sales from the aforementioned SUVs, F-Series truck sales were up 2%, E-Series sales increased 45%, and Transit Van sales were the best of any March in history.
Through the first quarter, Ford Canada’s sales are up 2% from 2016 at 62,704 vehicles. Car sales are down 15.7% at 7,020 units, while truck sales are up 4.7% at 55,684 units.
