Ford has announced that it will be investing an additional €2.9 million into the European arm of its Ford Driving Skills for Life program in the hopes of training thousands more teenage drivers in the year ahead. Ford began the program in Europe in 2013, and in the time since, nearly €10 million has been put toward educating young drivers.

2016 will mark the first time that Ford will bring its program to Poland and Finland, adding to the extension of the program in Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Romania, Russia, Spain, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.

Ford also announced this month that the 2016 Ford Driving Skills for Life tour will make no fewer than 15 stops in the United States, hitting states including Alabama, Arizona, California, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Texas. 2016 will also mark the first year in which the program will come to Argentina, Bahrain, Oman, and South Korea.

The program is of particular importance in Europe, where crashes are the leading cause of death for 18-24-year-olds according to the DaCoTA Project, which is co-financed by the European Commission Directorate General for Mobility and Transport.

“Too many young adults are dying in car crashes caused by a combination of inexperience and poor decision making,” said Jim Graham, manager, Ford DSFL. “With this new €2.9 million investment in young driver training for 2016, we can provide a further 7,000 young people with the skills and knowledge that could save their lives.”

To help spread the word, Ford is tapping the talents of European YouTubers including Tim Burton of Shmee150, Paul Wallace of Supercars of London, and Sam Fane of Seen Through Glass. Their experience with Ford Driving Skills for Life can be seen in the video below:
