Ford F-150 Only Pickup to Make Consumer Reports’ List of Vehicles Most Likely to Reach 200,000 Miles
Of all the qualities considered by pickup truck shoppers — as well as car, SUV, and minivan shoppers for that matter — longevity tends to rank pretty high with such a significant monetary investment at stake. The perceived magic number for a vehicle’s durability is 200,000 miles, which equals out to about 16.67 years of life at an average 12,000 miles driven per year. Consumer Reports recently compiled a list of vehicles that have made it to the 200,000-mile mark without significant costly repairs and with no problems reported over a 12-month span; just one pickup truck made the cut: the Ford F-150.

Naturally, with more than 200,000 miles on the odometer, the vehicles that were named in Consumer Reports’ analysis are well into used territory. This would mean that the Ford F-150 that has withstood so many miles and continues to do its duty would be considerably less advanced than the current-generation F-150, which is tougher and more durable than previous iterations thanks to its lightweight aluminum body and efficient powertrain options.
It’s not unlikely that other trucks would not reach that same milestone, but the survey in question only takes into account vehicles that have reached the mark without spending too much money on maintenance and repairs.
“Almost any car can make it to 200,000 miles and beyond if you’re willing to throw enough money at it,” writes Consumer Reports’ Jeff S. Bartlet. “But that’s not necessarily a good idea. It’s better to buy a safe, reliable model, and then properly maintain it — follow the maintenance schedule in your owner’s manual, take care of minor problems as they arise, and keep it clean.”
