The popularity of Ford’s F-150 pickup is undeniable. Since its introduction to the market, the lightweight pickup has swept the car industry away, being named as one of the top-selling cars in America for years on end. Because of this, it’s really no surprise that the Ford F-150 V6 sales are leading the light-duty pickup truck segment, even though the popular pickup only offers two engine options.

So far this year, V6 engines have powered more than 57% of Ford Motor Company’s F-150 retail sales, making it the highest six-cylinder engine mix in the industry since 1967. The American carmaker hopes to continue this trend for the rest of the year, especially with the introduction of the new 2015 F-150, which offers three different V6 engines.

“We expect those numbers to hold for the rest of the year,” said Doug Scott, Ford Truck marketing manager. “It really is amazing when you consider we are doing that with just two V6 engine choices—the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost and the 3.7-liter Ti-VCT V6 engine. When we come out with the new 2015 F-150, we will offer three different V6 engines, so the potential is there to go even higher.”

The three new V6 options offered with the new 2015 F-150 include a new 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine, along with the previous two options, ensuring that the Ford F-150 will continue to be one of the best pickup options on the market.

It should come as no surprise that the Ford F-150 V6 is the top selling light-duty pickup truck.
