Ford Fireworks Brighten Detroit Skyline on Monday
Do you like fireworks? Sure, who doesn’t like fireworks? Well, apart from dogs and people who don’t actually like fireworks, that is. Ford likes fireworks, because fireworks mean freedom and loudness and colors, which are all good things. This is why Ford Fireworks is a thing, and, more specifically, a thing that just happened on Monday.
This year’s iteration of the annual Ford Fireworks celebration—the 59th such gathering—saw the inclusion of a special event called L.I.T.E. Fest, with the acronym standing for Lead, Innovate, Thrive, and Elevate. The event, which was held at West Riverfront Park, honored 2,000 Detroit-area students and family members with food, activities, and an appearance by Detroit native Big Sean.

“The Ford Fireworks is a special community celebration that allows people of all ages and backgrounds to celebrate the renewed energy coming from our great city,” said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund. “Ford is proud to show our ongoing commitment to Detroit and southeast Michigan by supporting this iconic tradition that has been going on for nearly 60 years.”
The main attraction took place at 9:55 pm and carried the theme “Detroit! Right Now!” This year’s fireworks, presented with production from The Parade Company and Zambelli Fireworks Internationale, featured more than 10,000 pyrotechnic effects. That’s a lot of booms and bursts and pops and bangs and other onomatopoeias you can think of to simulate fireworks. Probably some whistling and stuff as well.
Other events that took place included a flyover from vintage WWII bombers provided by the Yankee Air Museum, live entertainment in Hart Plaza, and the annual Ford Fireworks Rooftop Party.
