Ford Focus RS, Focus ST, KA+ Win Awards
Who wins awards? Ford wins awards. Lots of awards, actually. Like, if you were to attempt to quantify the number of awards that Ford wins in a given year for its cars, trucks, and SUVs, then you would probably be counting for a long time because it’s just really a lot. We’re not going to go through with the hassle of attempting to count them, but suffice to say, the number is sizable.
And it’s only getting more sizable! In fact, Ford won three awards recently in Europe: the new KA+ and Focus ST each won an award at the 2017 Carbuyer awards, and the new Focus ST was named Sport Car of the Year by Echappenement. Cue Keanu Reeves “Whoa” sound clip.
2016 Ford KA+
“The Ford Ka+ is more than just a cut-price Fiesta. It offers small-hatchback space and practicality for city-car money. Despite its enticingly low price tag, the KA+ is good to drive, and with 56 mpg possible, it won’t break the bank to run either,” said Stuart Milne, editor of Carbuyer, in his comments regarding Ford’s two award winners.
“The Focus ST is by far the most rounded hot hatch on sale. It’s comfortable and practical enough to be superb day-to-day transport, but offers the performance, ride, and handling to really entertain on a twisty road. What sealed the ST’s win for us was the model choices available and, whichever version you choose, you’ll find the car well-priced and well-equipped.”
As for the Focus RS, it makes the seventh Echappement Sport Car of the Year award for Ford, joining the RS1600i (1982), Sierra Cosworth 4×4 (1990), Escort Cosworth (1992), Focus RS (2002), Focus RS500 (2010), and Fiesta ST (2013).
“This bomb, stamped with the blue oval, creates the buzz in the hot hatch segment and continues to surprise us,” said Jorge Clavell, Editor-in-Chief, Echappement. “We have to say that the Focus RS gives itself the means to reinvent the genre.”
