Ford volunteers participate in the company’s fourth Coat & Jacket Drive

Though much of the focus during Christmastime seems to be how much money you should spend on cool-but-ultimately-superfluous gifts for your friends and loved ones, it cannot be forgotten that a great many Americans have difficulty getting warm clothes to shelter them against the cold.

Ford Motor Company concluded its fourth Coat & Jacket Drive this week and wound up providing more than 1,000 coats to the Salvation Army in order to keep less fortunate families in and around the Detroit area warm this winter.

“Surviving the cold of a Michigan winter means bundling up in a warm coat with a hat and gloves,” said Janet Lawson, director, Ford Volunteer Corps. “Unfortunately, many of our neighbors struggle each day to stay warm and to find enough food, and we’re hoping we can help ease that burden.”

Ford employees donated 1,000 new and gently used coats to the cause, along with hats, scarves, and gloves. The collected goods were driven in two Ford Transit vans to the Detroit Salvation Army for distribution.

The conclusion of Ford’s fourth Coat & Jacket Drive followed last week’s Accelerated Action Day, wherein Ford volunteers around the country participated in numerous programs geared toward ending hunger.
