Ford has announced that it will be launching a new initiative with its dealers in the New England region that will put a combined $2 million toward the effort of fighting hunger.

“More than 12 percent of those living in the New England area lack reliable access to the food and nutrition needed to thrive,” said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services. “As part of our commitment to the communities we serve, we are stepping up our efforts in the fight against hunger.”

Vella announced the program at an event attended by dealers, community leaders, and food bank reps. He also handed over the keys to a new Ford Transit van to a representative of The Greater Boston Food Bank. Other institutions receiving assistance include the Connecticut Food Bank (East Haven), Food Share (Bloomfield, Conn.), Good Shepherd Food Bank (Auburn, Maine), The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts (Hatfield), Worcester County Food Bank, Inc. (Shrewsbury, Mass.), New Hampshire Food Bank (Manchester), Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York (Latham), Vermont Food Bank (Barre), and Rhode Island Community Food Bank (Providence).
