Ford announced on Tuesday that Hau Thai-Tang, the company’s group vice president of Global Purchasing, has been named the chairman of the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council for 2016-2017. As chair, Thai-Tang will help level the playing field so that minority-run suppliers will have increasing opportunities to develop their businesses and generate revenue.

“Ford has a long history of commitment to and success working with diverse business owners,” said Thai-Tang. “I am honored to be named chairman of this organization, and look forward to working with Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council to better serve corporate members and minority business enterprises.”

In 2014, Thai-Tang won the Asian Business Professionals Award from the Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce, and he was featured in DRIVEN earlier this year for his achievements in the automotive industry.

Ford also took the opportunity of Thai-Tang’s appointment to recap the year in supplier diversity development. In 2015, Ford won more awards for developer diversity than it has in its history, including: Gold Level Top Corporation for Women from the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (for the fourth consecutive year); Michigan Minority Development Council’s Corporation of the Year (sixth consecutive year); Corporation of the Year, National Minority Supplier Development Council; Excellence in Supplier Diversity, Best in Class, Great Lakes Women’s Business Council; and one of Women’s Enterprise USA’s Top 100 Corporations of the Year.
