Gold Winner Clio Awards

Ford has what you might call a winner with the 2017 Ford GT. The Ford GT was a winner from the moment it bowed at the Detroit Auto Show in 2015, and between that moment and now, it has won no shortage of awards, including the Gene Ritvo Award for Design and Elegance and EyesOn Design Award for Best Production Vehicle of NAIAS. On the track, it has also fulfilled its destiny by beating Ferrari at Le Mans on the 50th anniversary of Ford’s legendary 1-2-3 podium finish. Like we said, it’s got a thing for winning.

That winning trend continued last month during the Clio Awards, where the cutting-edge performance car became the first automobile ever to win a Gold Clio, picking up the inaugural prize for product design in the newly-minted Vehicle category. Makes enough sense. Winning, after all, is what the Ford GT was born to do.

“This is an exciting win, an extraordinary achievement,” said Craig Metros, Ford’s exterior design director for North America, who accepted the award with Ford interior design manager William Mangan. “The Ford GT is real piece of modern art, design and performance. The 2016 Le Mans winner is not only a beautifully sculptured machine, but a showcase of innovation that celebrates performance, efficiency, lightweight, and aerodynamics.’’

The annual Clio Awards have recognized creativity in industry and advertising for the past 57 years. Winners from this year’s ceremony also include BBDO (Network of the Year), Leo Burnett Chicago (Agency of the Year), Fred & Farid (Independent Agency of the Year), Framestore (Production Company of the Year), and Microsoft (Advertiser of the Year).
