Ford revealed a new and improved version of its Focus ST at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2014, and in the first 10 months of 2015, it has almost doubled sales of its sporty hatchback in Europe. Through October, Ford has sold 10,000 Focus STs in Europe, with roughly 4,600 customers choosing the new diesel-powered option and the remaining 5,400 selecting the EcoBoost petrol engine.

Ford is looking to boost sales even further with the addition of a six-speed dual-clutch PowerShift transmission for the diesel engine, which will make the Focus ST Ford’s fastest accelerating diesel car ever at an estimated 0-to-62 mph time of 7.7 seconds.

“New Focus ST has been a runaway success with customers spoilt for choice between our latest petrol and diesel power units,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe. “Diesel drivers now have the additional option of the Ford PowerShift transmission, which allows them to swap between quick-shifting automatic and sporty manual to suit their mood.”

Ford is rumored to be considering bringing the PowerShift dual clutch to its Focus RS in an effort to make it even crazier than it already is.
