As America observes Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Ford will be hosting a special event in Chicago geared toward the goals of advocating for positive social change and emphasizing the importance of black men in the American narrative.

Ford on Monday will be holding a day-long Men of Courage forum in honor of one of the key figures of the Civil Rights movement. The event takes place from 2-9 pm at 1871 Technology & Entrepreneurship Center, Suite 1212 of Merchandise Mart.

“Men of Courage enables African American men to unite behind a common mission of being great family men, innovators, and barrier breakers through storytelling, visioning sessions, and action pacts,” said Shawn Wilson, manager, multicultural community development, Ford Motor Company Fund. “Dr. King often spoke about poverty as the root cause for many of our social ills. I’m excited to hear the solutions we develop in Chicago and around the US that will benefit not just African American men—but all of our communities.”

Among the men gathering for today’s forum are NBA legend and former Detroit mayor Dave Bing, Detroit Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy, NFL Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis, and author and criminal justice advocate Shaka Senghor. Joe Madison will be broadcasting live from 7-9 pm for a special edition of his show, “Joe Madison The Black Eagle,” which can be heard on SiriusXM channel 126, Urban View.

For those not able to attend, Ford is offering a tool kit at menofcourage.com to help prompt thought and discussion. The hashtag #menofcourage will also allow for social media users to follow along for updates.
