Ford has begun production of the all-new F-650 and F-750 today at Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake, completing the transition of more than 1,000 hourly jobs and more than $168 million in investments from Mexico to America.

“Our investment in Ohio Assembly Plant reinforces our commitment to building vehicles in America and to delivering best-in-class commercial trucks,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of the Americas. “Working with our partners in the UAW, we found a way to make the costs competitive enough to bring production of a whole new generation of work trucks to Ohio.”

The 2016 F-650 and F-750, originally revealed in March of last year at the NTEA Work Truck Show, will serve the role of being the linchpin in Ford’s commercial vehicle lineup. Per Ford’s configurator, the F-650 and F-750 can be utilized for vehicles ranging from shuttles and wreckers to dump trucks and tire trucks.

Ford’s 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 is partnered with a TorqShift six-speed automatic transmission, making Ford the only automaker to build its diesel engine and the transmission to which it is paired in-house. With the 6.8-liter V10, Ford is also the only automaker to offer a medium-duty truck with a gasoline engine.

Ohio Assembly has been in operation since 1974, and it currently employs 1,400 people. In addition to the F-650 and F-750, the Avon plant is also responsible for producing the E-Series cutaway vans and stripped chassis.
