Ford Kicks Off Production of New Explorer in Chicago
Ford is banking on the all-new 2016 Ford Explorer deftly carrying on the 25-year, 7-million-model-strong legacy of the Explorer brand. Production began on the new 2016 Explorer today at the Chicago Assembly Plant, where it was ushered in by Ford President of The Americas Joe Hinrichs and UAW Vice President and Director of The National Ford Department Jimmy Settles.
Chicago Assembly has been in service for more than 90 years and currently operates with more than 16 miles of conveyor belts on the assembly line. It is Ford’s oldest North American assembly plant that is still in operation, and it has produced everything from the Model T and Model A to the Mercury Sable and Ford Fairlane.
