Ford, Lincoln See Q1 Growth in China

Ford today announced first-quarter sales numbers in China, revealing a 14% increase from Q1 2015 sales at a total of 314,454 vehicles. Of that number, 114,788 vehicles were delivered in March alone, a 5% year-over-year increase for the month.

“We are pleased with the continued growth and positive customer response our products continue to receive in China,” said John Lawler, chairman and CEO of Ford Motor China. “We remain committed to offering a great portfolio of vehicles and providing world class service to our valued customers.”

Changan Ford Automobile sales were up 12% in March at a total of 84,292 vehicles. SUVs accounted for nearly a third of those sales, with vehicles such as the EcoSport, Edge, Everest, Explorer, and Kuga accounting for 26,732 units. Sales of those aforementioned five SUVs totaled 79,964 units in the first quarter, up 38% year-over-year.

Sales of performance vehicles also showed significant increases, with the Mustang up 75% from Q1 2015 and the Focus ST up 23%.

Through the first quarter, CAF’s sales totaled 244,411 vehicles, up 23% from sales through the first three months of last year.

Jiangling Motors Corporation sales were down 8% in March at a total of 28,998 vehicles delivered. First-quarter sales were also down, falling 11% year-over-year with a total of 60,306 vehicles sold.

With dealership presence in China rising to 37 by the end of March, Q1 2016 was also a period of significant growth for the Lincoln brand. Sales through the first three months totaled 5,484 vehicles, three times the amount of vehicles sold in the first quarter of last year.
