Ford Motor Company of Canada achieved its eighth straight year as the most popular automotive brand in Canada and its best full-year sales performance since 1989 after seeing one more strong sales month in December.

Ford closed a year full of record sales performances with 19,759 vehicles delivered in December, up 0.7% from the year prior. Ford brand sales were led by the Edge, which was up 109%; Flex, which was up 56%; Expedition, which was up 74%; F-Series, which was up 7%; and Focus, which was up 3%. Sales of the Lincoln Navigator also rose 6% in December.

“It’s been an unprecedented year of sales for the Ford brand and we are thankful for the support of our customers who have helped us achieve sales success on many levels,” said Mark Buzzell, president and CEO, Ford Motor Company of Canada, Ltd. “Together with our dealer partners, we enter 2017 focused on our commitment to enhancing the customer experience and look forward to continued growth in the year ahead.”

Total car sales for December were down 16.2% at 2,644 units delivered, but truck/SUV/van sales were up 3.9% at 17,115 units.

With 2016 in the books, Ford’s sales totaled 304,618 units, up 9.4% from 2015’s 278,531 vehicles sold. Car sales were well down at 46,958 units vs. 54,743 units in 2015, but the difference was more than made up for by a 15.1% increase for trucks/SUVs/vans. Ford truck sales were more than 33,000 units greater than 2015 at 257,660 units sold, with sales of the F-Series up 22% from 2015 and clinching both its seventh year as the best-selling vehicle in Canada and 51st year as best-selling truck in Canada.
