Ford/Ethisphere 2016 World's Most Ethical Companies

Ford has been named to Ethisphere Institute’s World’s Most Ethical Companies list every year from 2010 to 2015. This might lead one to the conclusion that Ford has also been named to the same list by the same institute for many of the same reasons in 2016. Well, score that conclusion as a win for deductive reasoning, because that’s exactly what happened.

Ford is the lone automaker to appear on the 2016 World’s Most Ethical Company list, marking the company’s seventh straight appearance on the list and solidifying its ability to lay claim to being the world’s most ethical automaker.

“This honor celebrates our employees who are committed to doing the right things and making the right choices,” said Bill Ford, executive chairman, Ford Motor Company. “Ethics and corporate citizenship are the foundation of what drives us to make people’s lives better.”

Ethisphere Institute’s annual list is a means of recognizing those companies that prioritize ethical business practices and being good corporate citizens of the world. The five categories upon which companies are judged are ethics and compliance, corporate citizenship and responsibilities, culture of ethics, governance and leadership, and reputation.

To the point of the latter, a 2016 Harris Poll Reputation Quotient said that around 50% of respondents will investigate companies before giving them their business, and approximately 33% of all respondents said they would not do business with a company that has a negative public perception.

“Ford understands that trust is the cornerstone of everything it does, and their commitment to being an active part of a global community helps explain why they are the only automaker Ethisphere has recognized every year since 2010,” said Timothy Erblich, Ethisphere’s Chief Executive Officer. “Being honored for the seventh time is no small achievement. Congratulations to everyone at Ford for being recognized.”

Ford has earned a number of awards for its leadership and innovation, including being named one of Forbes’ 2015 America’s Best Employers, making Fortune’s Change the World List, and making Fast Company’s 50 Most Innovative Companies.
