Ford EcoSport Go Further China

Ford Motor Company reported sales totaling 97,863 vehicles in China last month, down 1% from August 2016. Changan Ford Automobile (CAF) sales made up the vast majority of that total at 69,002 vehicles, which reflects an 8% year-over-year decline. Jiangling Motor Company (JMC) was up 10% with sales totaling 22,035 vehicles, Lincoln was up 105% with 5,240 vehicles, and imports were up 25% at 1,586 vehicles.

“[Ford] significant gains in sales of JMC and imported Ford-branded vehicles, which grew 10% and 25%, respectively,” said Mark Ovenden, Vice President of Marketing, Sales, and Services, Asia Pacific, Ford Motor Company. “We look forward to launching the new EcoSport in mid-September to further strengthen our product portfolio in China.”

Current EcoSport sales were up 43% in August at 4,414 vehicles, and Mondeo grew 18% with 9,267 sales. CAF was led from a volume perspective by Escort’s 24,125 sales, down 2% year-over-year.

JMC’s gains were made possible in large part by a big month for the JMC Pick-Up and JMC Teshun, which saw sales totaling 5,552 vehicles and 3,103 vehicles, respectively. Sales of the Ford Everest rose 8% at 724 vehicles, and Tourneo sales were up 140%.

Lincoln sales were up 105% as sales of the Continental neared the 1,000-unit mark, sales of the MKC and MKX increased double digits, and sales of the MKZ and Navigator more than doubled year-over-year.

Imports were once again strong for Ford as sales of the Focus ST/RS, Mustang, and Explorer all increased year over year. Sales of the F-150 Raptor totaled 88 units, bringing the performance truck’s to-date total to 739 units.

Ford’s cumulative sales in China total 719,859 vehicles through eight months, down 6% year-over-year. CAF sales total 487,039 vehicles (down 16%), JMC sales total 185,288 vehicles (up 16%), Lincoln sales total 34,494 vehicles (up 94%), and imports total 13,038 vehicles (up 17%).
